19 heads in a statue........................

You all would have encountered to look at statues with 9 or 10 or even 15 heads. But I saw a statue with 19 heads that is wall mounted. This picture was taken near Tirupathi Balaji Temple situated in Ahmedabad. Next to that Temple there is a Mandapam, and this statue is wall mounted at the entrance of that Mandapam. I was astound, surprised , dumbstruck after seeing this and thought I would share with you all. Have you seen a statue like this before????????????

Comparative Study of Venkat Prahu movie : Saroja vs Mankatha :) Part - II

Here comes some of the movie pictures that look similar in saroja and mankatha

Source: Behindwoods

Source: Kerals.com
5 of them in the picture.

Walking in straight line is common in Venkat Prabhu's movies as you can see above.

Finally "Machi open the bottle" is similar to "Saroja samanikalo" . Also Funny background music played in both movies during fight scenes . In saroja it is played while the van turns around and in mankatha while Ajith is fighting. Gadgets like apple products are well used in mankatha which is new in the movie. Moreover, comparing both the movies, I feel Saroja is better than Mankatha :)

Note: The photos are taken merely only for the research purpose that amounts to fair use and it is not a copyright infringement.

SAAS - Software or Storage as a service ???????

I have been researching about cloud computing since the year of 2011 arrived. And now I have settled to do my dissertation under this topic because of  Intellectual Property Rights issues arising in cloud computing. Under cloud computing currently there are three service models called IaaS - Infrastructure as a service , PaaS - Platform as a service and SaaS - Software as a service .While doing online searches I have been confused by the term SaaS . Why is there a confusion ?????????

Actually SaaS means Software as a service and some also refer to it as a Storage as a service. Storage service comes under the purview of IaaS - Infrastructure as a service i.e this service model provides servers, networks to the customer and also includes storage service. So is there a new service called Storage as a service emerging in the cloud or is it a sub type of IaaS ????

A simple example for storage as a service is www.dropbox.com where you can store your files and share with others. The site is exclusively meant for storing your files online and access them anywhere no matter where you work. In some books Storage as a service is termed as STaaS. But in some websites it is termed like SaaS which confuses , but after reading the content you get to know that it is storage as a service. But I strongly go for the term STaaS for Storage as a service.Ultimately I feel that there is confusion. I hope the confusion gets clarified as soon as possible.

Google Books and its disadvantage

I have been using Google Books for finding study materials for the past 2 years. It's simply great to search and find out relevant study materials with keywords of your subject. After you type the keywords and enter, you will get lot of books which has those keywords. If you know the book title its still better to search or also with the author's name you can search or also with publishers.

When I keep reading the book continuously, some pages of the books are not available for reading because they are copyrighted and hence those pages are omitted from viewing. While reading an interesting part of the book , if some pages are omitted it annoys me because the continuity is not there hence am not able to get the whole study material. Lets say if  I am reading a chapter of the book to understand the concept I cannot get to understand the whole concept because the pages are omitted. This feeling is just like where you keep reading a novel and the last page of the novel is missing . There are also limited options to view a book like either you have to buy or browse it in online library.

It is not affordable to buy each book just for some of the areas of the topic. Also as I mentioned earlier that the whole books can be viewed in online libraries, that is the libraries situated ONLY within United States Of America and not outside [Given in this Google Books Settlement Agreement] :( Good that many libraries are engaged with Google to provide books online in a subscription model. Also many Universities Libraries are in tie to provide this service. It's really a good opportunity for the students, researchers, scholars etc who are in USA.

What about the condition of students like me in India and in other countries ?????? There is little options to view such books which are required to study. All this is because of the Copyright Protection. As an Intellectual Property Law Student I would like to put forward my views in this area. Copyright generally protects literary and artistic works. To balance the private interest and public interest in the copyright law there are certain exceptions like fair use for educational and research purpose provided in copyright law. Even as a student, for educational and research purpose am unable to view the books under these exceptions.

I wish this facility is brought outside USA also by which most of them would be benefited and especially students like me would be more benefited if the institutional subscription is offered in India :) If it is done so then we can do our research with lots of material :) Finally, I request Google to consider this and do the best for the whole world as it is doing now in other areas.

Internet Access as a Human Right

When I say Egypt all I can remember is not the revolution but the country switched off internet connection after political unrest. But this is going to be no more.

Yeah!!!!!!!!!! It's true  that United Nations Organisation has declared Internet Access as a human right. But what it has to do with political unrest??????????  The report of the United Nations says no state shall switch off  Internet even if there is political unrest.

Yes, on 03-06-2011, United Nations Organization has declared Internet access as a human right and guaranteed this under right to freedom of opinion and expression. I came to know this good news through Spicy IP. And before declaring it as a human right, I presented  a  paper in the seminar on this topic in our University for World Intellectual Property Day ( April 26 ). It was known that UNO was being pushed to declare it as a human right. Finally, this has been declared. I am elated and very happy about it.

While searching for a topic to present for the World IP Day, I was browsing and ended up to find that Estonia (European country) was the first country to declare Internet access as human right in the year 2000. Yeah, that's a decade back, and it took almost 11 years for  UNO to declare  now only. Later, we have decided to prepare on this topic and presented it. When my friends and one of our professor asked us that ,"what  are you  going to present for Intellectual Property Day seminar?" . I replied that, "Internet access as a human right"............. Every one gazed  and some even laughed :) at me. Also, my professor laughed at the  first instance and asked me to drop this topic. But, we some how convinced her and informed  that it's true and it has  been declared  and existed in 5 countries. That is Costa Rica,Estonia,Finland,France,Greece.

Also, we never wanted to step down from this topic even after she said "NO"to us, because, we had worked very hard and prepared  this paper for more than 10 days and it was quite interesting topic for us . After 2 days our professor asked us," how is your article going on?" I replied that it's going on well. Which means she had researched about it, i think so :). Thereafter I presented the topic , "Internet Access as a Human Right" with a issue of balancing the free flow of information on one side and protecting copyright owners on other side :)

But today I am very happy that at last, finally the day has come where we can access internet without any censor, political unrest, and disconnection for infringing intellectual property  provided it has passed three part test mentioned in the report. What else,,,,,,, the day kick started for me with a boost from UN's declaration and happy environment day. Lets try to provide internet access to the whole world and bring out a wireless world :) :)

Indigo service.................. :(

Bye bye chennai.welcome Ahmedabad. I was all set to travel to Ahmedabad for my semester vacation to see my sister and her family. Appeared for the exam in the morning and by afternoon I had to pack my self to board the 4.45pm flight by Indigo airlines.I am not a billionaire or millionaire travelling to places by air but to avoid unnecessary travel  time. I travel by air as  the cost is not very high but nominal and reasonable from my point of view. To reach Ahmedabad from chennai through rail  it takes  nearly 36 hours and oh! My god thats really a tough task to sit and go in a train for about 2 days. But by air it’s just a matter of 2 hrs.

Yeah i know the value of money but u should also take into account the time taken to reach the place. Yes at present my dad buys me the ticket as am yet to earn and will surely take my parents by air when i start earning .I am not a frequent flyer but twice a year i visit my parents and sister by air. It was a time where only those elite class or creamy layer people could fly as the cost of ticket was really really expensive. Then it was air deccan  which had slashed the domestic ticket prices abruptly because of which middle class people like me had chances to travel by air :)

Thereafter, after air deccan almost every private airlines reduced the domestic  fare.   While slashing the prices there were also many facilities cut down like food was provided in all airlines  earlier but now u need to pay for food which  too is expensive .Also many offers were announced by  airlines to attract the travellers to experience the low cost air travel like offering tickets at just Re.1 + taxes for a certain period.I have travelled in so called prestigious Indian Airlines, Air Shara, Air Deccan,Kingfisher , Spice jet (recently purchased by sun group).

Last week I had travelled in a fresh airlines “go Indigo” for the first time. I was really very excited to experience the journey in indigo. When my dad said that the ticket is booked in indigo instantly i thought of their commercial ads telecasted .I like that ad very much because the theme of that ad is to reach the passengers i.e "on time" which is conveyed neatly and precisely. The ad goes like this “when our chefs wake up on time......”. You can watch the ad here.

Finished my exam , had lunch and started to airport.Went through all process like scanning, tagging, collecting boarding pass, security checking etc. etc etc.....Was waiting for the gate to open.then it was time up and i could c the indigo bus coming to receive the passengers to board the flight. The most important thing i liked about indigo airlines was:
1.their punctuality, thereby reaching the passengers on time.
2.the hot stepper- instead of steps they had changed it like the ramp. Because of this passengers who carried their hand luggage could now pull and take with them with ease. This was new for me which i had not seen in any other domestic airlines (dont know whether it is introduced newly) .
3.the uniform of air hostess - they had a different kind of cap and a collar.also their eye make up was unique which was applied by every air hostess .

The things which i didn’t like in indigo airlines :(
1.air hostess did not greet the passengers instead they were busy with their work at the entrance of the flight. But while getting down in Ahmedabad they said thank you :)
2.Unlike other airlines i mentioned above , indigo didn’t even give complementary water to drink. The 200ml small water bottle was missing :(  In other airlines small water bottle will be distributed.I don't know how indigo is very cost effective where it is not even providing water perhaps it is provided on demand. I always keep water with me, but this time i didnt carry because i thought they would give that 200ml cute  water bottle :) But what i thought was all shattered. I was very thirsty and asked the air hostess to bring water, they bought in a paper glass. But this was very bad :(
On the whole I didn’t like goinidigo service. I dont know why............. Unhappy flying................

Deadliest things in house.............

Oh! my god!!!!!!!!!! The deadliest thing in a house is when pipes leak and where the tank water gets wasted................................... Yes,just 2 hours ago in my house one of the pipe from tank started to leak and the water is flowing down wastely. As soon as I heard the leakage from the living room,I rushed to check from where the water is leaking, that too non-stop.I first thought that tank water is over flowing. But no, it was a leakage and the pipe has some cracks which lead to water leakage.

What next, I called Plumber and informed about this and asked to send someone to repair it.Luckily 2 of them came but couldnt repair it because without ladder they said they cannot climb up."Since today is sunday almost all the shops would be closed and we cannot hire ladder",said one of the plumber.I said ,"ok then no other go kindly repair it tomorrow".Plumber also assured that he would come tomorrow and repair it.In the mean time I have also requested my tenants to store necessary water for today and tomorrow as the tank water will be exhausted by night.

Another deadliest thing is that the Valve to block the flowing water is also not accessible since we built a room beside that :(  I was still worried and thought of the water that is being wasted ...................Luckily something striked me to create paths,so that water flows to the coconut tree.Yes !!!!!!!!!!! I have created some small paths so that water isn't wasted.Good that it striked me.Finally tomorrow's day would be quite hectic............

Delicious to Google Bookmarks

I have been researching about cloud computing and its intellectual property issues that may arise. While doing so I bookmark lot of websites in my firefox browser's bookmark with folders in it.Suddenly i feared what if my computer doesnt work as it is old enough and it has worked a lot for me :) I have formatted it thrice and feared if it shuts due to viruses, though i have installed anti-virus and scan the pc then and there. So to avoid this fear I started to bookmark my necessary important websites links in delicious bookmark which i am used to it while working online.Unfortunately i heard that yahoo owned delicious is closing its bookmark service :( what next when crawled the web to find a solution it was Google who gave me hands.google is a one stop shop i think :) yeah ,i feel so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes , google has come up with a program  i.e a migration tool where you can import your delicious bookmark to Google bookmarks in just one click.I tried and it worked very smoothly.yahoo owned delicous fall is google's rise :) What next, I felt good to import in some seconds without any fear.Am happy that I could do these in a fraction of seconds. There lies the power of information and the information society which is now a knowledge based society is in need of these kinds of information provider as knowledge is gained only when such information is accessible. In that way google has facilitated lot of information.Google rocks :)

10th International Online Dispute Resolution Conference 2011- Day 2 (Part -II)

Let me start reporting the afternoon session of day 2.The session was started with Jeffrey M.Aresty presentation on the topic ODR in developing world. He stated that increasing numbers of mobile phone user and Internet usage would pave way for widening the scope of ODR.Also discussed the procedural aspect of taking justice online and using law to empower musicians.

Then it was invincible Rahul who emphasised the need for improving technologies which will help physically challenged persons to access the available online facilities. Also he elaborated about the screen reading software which helps the visually impaired to read and type in computer. He also gave a good example that online shopping  would be more beneficial to differently-abled persons and also ODR for that matter if there is any dispute. To know more about this technology and Rahul visit this website : inclusive planet.

Later it was Aura Esther who threw some light on the existing ODR schemes and various international conventions which support ODR and the countries which have platform for the development of ODR.On the whole she gave a glimpse on global aspect of ODR.Then it was John singer who talked about the goals and working of International consumer protection and enforcement network (ICPEN).He also explained about the website econsumer.gov which is a platform for consumers to report complaints..This portal can be used by anyone in the world to file consumer complaints.Though India is not a member it ranked 6th among other countries in filing consumer complaints. He was keen enough to see India soon becoming a member of ICPEN and kept on insisting that India should become member soon.

Then it was CORE (Consumer Online Resource and Empowerment Centre)  group who explained widely the prevailing condition of consumer protection in India. This online resource has been established exclusively to resolve consumers complaints. The final speaker for the day was Rodney Ryder who gave us legal background which supports ODR in India.Thereafter he discussed about UDRP ,INDRP and cited some case laws that dealt with cyber squatting.

10th International Online Dispute Resolution Conference 2011- Day 2 (Part -I)

The day 2 of the conference kick started with the same pace as of day 1.It was also rightly pointed out by the conference organizer Chittu Nagaraj that today being Day 2 is the most interesting day for this conference. Before starting to report the day's sessions I must thank my friend in deed to help me writing in this space about Day-2 as I was sluggish and lazy enough to concentrate.

The day's session started off with Father of ODR i.e Ethan Kash and Leah Wing  who spoke on "ODR and Government".He focused on the significance of maintaining Health records in electronic format for the benefit of both individual and the society and also mentioned ODR as an alternate to reduce case backlogs.Leah spoke about "supporting social deliberative skills in online".She discussed the overlapping of Technology with ODR and explained in brief about the govt. sponsored interdisciplinary projects in US.

Chintake spoke on "Enforcement of Online Consumer Arbitration Awards:A New Approach".He discussed the need of ODR in today's business world and focused on the working of e-courts and also about consumer arbitration award. Then Dr.Vijayakumar , VC of Tamilnadu Ambedkar Law University spoke about his personal expereinces with regard to challenge faced by ODR and emphasised the need for including ODR as a subject in the Law Schools.

10th International Online Dispute Resolution Conference 2011- Day 1 (Part III)

This is the third  and final part of day 1.Yes I tried to put all stuff that I could understand on day 1 of the conference which made me to split in three parts. But this part is really interesting and which melted my heart too. The presentation was by Sanjana Hattotuwa .After his presentation I could understand that online dispute resolution and technologies are not only for e-commerce or business but it can also change the concept of humanity. Thus it was evident from his speech that information, communication, technology can be used for peace building too. You can go here to view the ppt of Sanjana Hattotuwa. Then he also mentioned about the pc user against mobile user and clearly pictured that than computer, mobile was owned and widely used by the society at large.Mobile users are tremendously increasing day by day due to proliferation of telecom cos and the additional features they offer. Finally he added that since mobile is widely used , there is necessity to create non-smart phone applications where even non-smart phone users can access the technology for business purpose.

Later, Leah Wing , threw some light on murals and its archives.By this the day 1 presentations were winded up and I attempted to express all those that I could understand. Moreover, I have elaborately expressed those presentations which impressed me :)

Leah Wing, the Final presenter for day 1.

What next, I will be posting the sessions of day 2.Will try to concise and highlight the themes of presenters.Until then happy peacebuilding :) through technologies .

10th International Online Dispute Resolution Conference 2011- Day 1 (Part II)

This is part-II of Day 1 where there were interesting presentations. After Colin rule it was Johnston S.Barkat, Asst. Secretary-General, UN, Ombudsman and Mediation Services who delivered keynote speech. He has 15yrs of experience in mediation and is working for ODR in UN.He started his speech by quoting a small story where his daughter and her friends had made rules of who all will use the fort. Thus with the help of story he made us clear that conflict arises when there is violation of trust and he meant ODR is concerned,"not with adjudication but with resolution".

Indian scenario of ODR
Prathamesh Popat and Naavi Vijayashankar made exclusive presentations about ODR under Indian context with lots of suggestion and also gave solutions to the existing problems. They pointed out the advantages of ODR over normal court procedure and threw some light on enforcement issues and its implementation. As a suggestion for authenticity of Identity in online, Mr.Naavi enumerated the significance of digital signatures. Digital Signatures help in sending and receiving e-documents and such e-documents are  now valid in Indian court of law submitted through Digital Signature Certificate which is provided under Information Technology Act,2000.To understand the concept of Digital signature go here.

Online Dialogue
It was about online dialogue presented by Beth Fascitelli, Head of consulting, Meta-Culture who emphasised that there should be a focused and productive conversation to resolve conflicts. This doesn't mean to be a  debate but a unique way to resolve disputes and conflicts. She also insisted that students must hone their communication skills and engage in meaningful conversation. Also pointed out the technological barrier, accessibility barrier and political challenges for an effective dialogue. Thus in her concluding remarks she stressed upon communication skills and thinking skills for an effective online dialogue apart from language barriers that persists.

Thereafter , a sketch about ODR in Italy was  presented by Irene Sigismondi.Followed by her it was Pablo Cortez from UK who gave some guidelines for growth of fair and effective ODR systems. Then it was Orna Rabinovich who dealt with ODR and the blurring of traditional boundaries.

Thus this is end of part II and by part III ,I would be completing the events that happened on Day 1 in the conference.

10th International Online Dispute Resolution Conference 2011- Day 1 (Part I)

The 10th International Online Dispute Resolution Conference 2011 (7th-9th Feb)" that was organised by ebay and paypal was held today in Chennai in The Trident hotel. The conference had started today with great enthusiasm and it is held for another two days . This Conference is conducted in India for the first time. There were eminent speakers who had come from different parts of the world like Italy,Europe,Srilanka and so on. There were also participants from various cities of India which made the conference even more interesting to proceed.Lets go down and explore the interesting presentations for the Day-1.

The Conference was welcomed and addressed by the conference co-ordinator Chittu nagaraj and followed by her other speakers made presentation on various topics of ODR(Online Dispute Resolution). Ethan Katsh was the very first speaker to expose opening remarks on ODR.He is also called as the father of ODR as he had discovered and recognised the impact of new information technologies that had on law.He is also an author of the Book- Online Dispute Resolution : resolving conflicts in cyberspace.

Followed by him the son of ODR :) i.e Colin Rule (about Colin Rule) explained briefly the necessity of ODR.He stated that ODR was recognized by paypal and ebay at large than any other organization had implemented and further said that," information communication technology (ICT) is widely increasing in every industry and the human society is moving online".In such case how should people resolve their disputes in cyberspace was the question raised by him? He made us think why really ODR is necessary in today's online world? It is necessary because court procedure sucks and people are against the time consuming process. Then he displayed some video presentations in which it showed some of the active personalities who were working for the betterment of ODR.There after in a ppt presentation he explained and listed out how to manage conflicts? The conflicts can be managed by:
1.Emails
2.Discussion Boards
3.Chats
4.Instant Messaging
5.Audio and Video Conferencing.
It is to be noted that in a year almost 60 million disputes are resolved through ODR at ebay. Then he explained how to file a dispute in paypal and other stuff etc.He mentioned about ebay where it has community court and this court was indian born innovation :) To conclude he stressed upon UNCITRAL which has a permanently working group exclusively for ODR. Finally, what ODR means for you?
- ODR is growing by leaps and bounds
-Keep aware of ODR and educate yourself about it.
-Lastly, to resolve disputes online.

conference hall on day1.

Thus, this is part-I of the Day-1 session. There were still more presentations that will be posted in part-II.You can also watch the webcast of this conference in this site tndalu.ac.in .

Need of Foot over Bridge in the entrance of Adyar Bridge

I was just going through today's newspaper TOI to find any interesting news other than this 2G scam and other boring stuffs. While crawling the paper I was glad to see news about some key proposals of tamilnadu govt like setting up parks in the chennai city, banning plastics in parks etc. I was even more interested to see a key proposal about setting up of 3 foot over bridges (FOB) in chennai. It is a notable feature that the bridges will be set up with lifts for pedestrians.

The first and foremost FOB with lift was set up in sterling road which I have a look at it everyday while going in the bus.It is good that one who cannot climb stairs can use lift and is helpful especially for elders.Apart from this, the key proposal says that 3 other foot over bridges with lifts are yet to be set up in the chennai city.It is fine that the govt. is doing the needy as elections are approaching :)

I thought it would be helpful for the pedestrians if a foot over bridge is set up in the entrance of Thiru vi ka bridge or Adyar bridge. The road that connects that bridge is Durgabai Deshmukh road where Mylapore, Mandaiveli,R.A.Puram residents and other public often access to reach places like Adyar and Besant nagar. This road is one of the busiest roads I have seen as I go by this way everyday. And pedestrians find it very difficult to cross the road all the time as the road never sleeps.

On either side of the road there is Andhra Mahila Sabha Hospital and MGR Janaki College and bus stops too.So the pedestrians like patients, visitors, college students and generally public people find it difficult to cross the road.I myself find hard to cross road inspite of Traffic police manning there. At times he is absent in that place where sometimes pedestrians give hardships to the two wheeler and four wheelers. To control the traffic there is another bridge being under constrution parallel to adyar bridge where public can use it.Hope this bridge eases traffic congestion.Though it would ease traffic, there is still a need of bridge for pedestrians.

Thus as a pedestrian I humbly request the Govt to act wisely and set a foot over bridge in the entrance of adyar bridge too which will be helpful to the public.

The Kankaria Lake

My semester exams were finished and holidays were about to start.I had planned to enjoy those holidays with my sister and her son who stay in Ahmedabad. It was great staying in Ahmedabad that too in winter season.Oops!!!!!! the winter there was so cold that I couldn't survive without my jerkins outside the house. The normal temperature in this season is not more than 28C during day time, and goes down till 8C or 9C in night and early morning .Winter season starts from November and lasts for 3-4 months i.e it ends by February last or by march first week.In spite of that season I visited many places in and around the city.

Firstly, we visited The Kankaria lake which is situated in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat state. It is very near from my sister's house, say less than 1 Km.Me and my cousins planned to visit the lake because it was renovated with lots of features and mainly there was a 1 week kankaria carnival festival going on.So we thought of killing time there and also enjoy the lake.We reached the lake by 12'o clock in the afternoon to visit the zoo beside the lake, and later enjoy the lakes beauty as the dusk sets in.The zoo was good and had many visitors because there were new arrivals in the zoo.It took around 4 hrs for us to see all the animals like tiger, lion, parrots, peacock, flamingo, hippopotamus and the list goes on and on.As we came out of zoo, we were very hungry and to fill our appetite we had pani puris or gol gappa (popular snack in Gujarat). After eating we saw the Lake which was decorated with coloured lights, and was clearly visible after the sunset. In and around the lake, the carnival festival was going on.We were having a good time watching the beauty of the lake and also took some snaps.Below is the beautiful sunset that reflects on the lake. Then the lake instructed my mind to capture its beauty which is why I took the below photo.

As it became darker, the colorful lake was amazing. The photo below is exactly the same as above ,but it was taken after light settings and sunset.

Almost the whole day, we killed time by roaming around the lake and taking snaps. Finally a day's trip to kankaria lake came to an end by Columbus ride, aeroplane ride etc.....The snap below was taken while we were sitting in the aeroplane ride :)

In the next post we will go around to visit some other places and explore its beauty :) Until then happy trips...............
